Welcome to 2009!

Hi everyone,

It has been a while since I last wrote to you all. I have been in holiday mode. Hope you are all having a wonderful time with family and friends. The School is reopening on 27 January. I welcome to all new and returning parents and children to the new academic year.

Below is some news from last year.

Science Experience

Early this month we had a visit from science educators who spent some time talking to the children about the science that we can observe every day in our lives. Here are two photos from some of the fun experiments in which the children took part.

New Sandals!

When Heather walked in on Thursday morning it was immediately obvious that she was waiting for a response… what was not immediately obvious was what she was waiting for a response to…

It was only when she very diplomatically shuffled her feet that I realised that she was wearing some very pretty new sandals. I complemented her on her pretty sandals and she immediately burst out “They’re my new sandals!! I just bought them!”

So here they are for all of you to enjoy! Heather’s new sandals…

Jessica Abbo

Dear parents - We recently had a Montessori Moment that I would like to share with you. Jessica is a former student of ours who attended the School in 2006 and 2007. She visited us last Friday and as I spoke with her Mum, we found she had immediately slipped off to clean our classroom sink! As you will know, looking after your environment is a key part of the Montessori method of education and it is wonderful to see that it has become an enjoyable activity for Jessica. The staff at our School strive to ensure that children practice what they learn, and Jessica’s enthusiasm is a testament to that approach.

Camping Day

Here are some photos from our camping day. The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed this event. The highlight of the day was toasting marshmallows over a cellophane fire, which the the children were particularly enthusiastic about. The children also participated in a treasure hunt in which they uncovered lollies hidden throughout the “camping grounds”.

Christmas Party Reminder

A quick reminder that the School Christmas Party is on Thursday 27 November at 5:30pm.  Remember to bring a plate of finger food and your jolliest laugh.  We look forward to enjoying the evening with you.

Garage Sale Reminder

The School is organising a huge garage sale on Saturday 29 November, from 8am to 12pm.  We are inviting all parents who would like to sell any household goods or other unwanted items to contribute their goods to the sale.  There will be a 10% donation from all sales towards the School.  The parents will keep the remaining 90% of the sale price.

This is a fantastic opportunity to put all your unwanted goods together in one place and attract a big group of potential buyers.  Don’t miss out!  Contact me as soon as possible to organise your contribution.

We will also need a helper to run the sale.  Please put your hand up to volunteer.
